![]() ![]() Overall, for someone familiar with the book, 2017 is the much better version. Most of what you see between Yang Kang and Mu Nianci in this drama was never in the book. They made up completely nonexistent side character stories in that show. That being said, the 2017 changes are nothing compared to the 2008 version, which changed the source material so much, at times it was completely unrecognizable. Despite the what the writers did, I really enjoyed this version's Huang Rong. And then there were some unnecessary and inexplicable changes down the line. However, when Huang Rong the beggar was introduced, it suddenly deviated from the book depiction and strayed to the 1983 TV version instead which completely misses the point. The earlier episodes was the best version of this show I've seen. The 2017 version is a more faithful adaptation of the source material. Unfortunately no version of this drama adequately captures the great work that was the book. "it is too far from the books" and so on."changing too much to fit the taste of the current crowd like giving too much screen time on romance and less on actual stories".Many of the 10s adaptations are slammed for various reasons like: It's the worst D&C ever with a douban score of 3.2 (Note: lowest score is 2.0) and universally slammed by all the Chinese entertainment content makers. The Deer and the Cauldron (2020), another JY's work, is the prime example of this argument. The production value, filming technologies (be it the hardware or the software), and special effects are always improving with time, so if that's what you seek most, then yes go for the latest version.īut if you are here for the story and acting, the newest versions don't always provide that. I guess the same could be said for any adaptation with a lot of versions. ![]() ![]() Just some advices for people who are insterested,įor Jin Yong adaptations like LoCH, the new ones aren't always good. If you want to finish up the trilogy after RoCH, search for the version of The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber you'd like. ![]()
